Neighboring Rights Collection 1 0

Collect additional royalties that you are rightfully owed

Apart from the royalties you are currently collecting through the digital stores, it is possible that your music is also generating neighboring rights. Neighboring Rights are defined as public performance royalties due to the sound recording copyright holders. Omziki’s Neighbouring Rights service will allow the collection of revenue generated in digital performance royalties channels and processed via our system.

For now, the only channel of this rights type integrated into Omziki is SoundExchange. This channel collects royalties in non-interactive streaming platforms, like Internet and satellite radio such as Pandora, SiriusXM, Slacker, iHeart, etc. Master rights collected via traditional radio are not available via SoundExchange. For more information, please check this article about SoundExchange and this one about how to register sound recordings and collect SoundExchange royalties with Omziki.

If you’re a record label/master rights owner, and your master recordings are being publicly performed and broadcasted in non-US territories, you could be eligible to earn neighboring rights royalties.

This is completely separate from the field of music publishing, in which songwriters and composers earn performance royalties from public broadcasts of their musical compositions.

Omziki Distribution’s Neighboring Rights Administration Service is only available to eligible labels who are distribution clients and approved by our Rights Management team. If interested, we ask that you create a ticket via our Help Desk.

You’re earning royalties if your music is:
  • Plays on radio / web radio
    • Terrestrial radio outside of the US, e.g. BBC
    • Satellite (e.g. Sirius XM)
  • Streams on TV
  • Publicly performed (e.g. being played in public places and businesses)
  • Private copying levy (royalty to account for recorded music being copied domestically, paid on blank media bought for personal use)
  • Included in new online media (e.g. webcasts, simulcasting)
